Acton is the northern of Halton Hills' two villages, a former tannery town with a compact historic core and a band of later residential growth around it. The older housing runs from the 1870s through the interwar period, with post-war and 1970s-onward development filling in beyond.

As in Georgetown, most sprayed texture in Acton's older homes was applied over plaster during a later renovation rather than at construction. That puts the application in the pre-1980 asbestos window even where the house itself is far older, and it means the ceiling underneath may need attention once the texture is off.
