Do Weissenburg homes have asbestos in popcorn ceilings?
Some homes in Weissenburg may have asbestos in their popcorn ceilings, but it depends on the age of the home. Chrysotile asbestos was commonly mixed into ceiling texture through the 1970s and into the mid-1980s, so if a home's ceilings were textured before the mid-1980s, testing is the only reliable way to know. Homes textured after that period are far less likely to contain it.
Under Ontario Regulation 278/05, any suspect material must be tested before it is disturbed — sanding, scraping, or removing untested popcorn texture is not permitted. We coordinate lab testing at cost, typically $300–$500, with no markup added. Removal itself is not legally mandated, and the Ontario Building Code does not regulate popcorn ceilings — that decision is entirely up to the homeowner.
Once testing clears the ceiling (or confirms it), our all-inclusive pricing covers full removal and finishing:
- Unpainted popcorn ceiling: $4.50/sqft (removal, 2 skim coats, primer, 2 coats paint)
- Latex-painted ceiling: $6.50/sqft
- Oil-base painted ceiling: $7.50/sqft
