Was asbestos found in popcorn ceilings in 1970s?

Yes — chrysotile asbestos was commonly mixed into popcorn ceiling texture through the 1970s and into the mid-1980s, so any home built or textured before the mid-1980s should be treated as suspect until tested. Ontario Regulation 278/05 requires testing before disturbing suspect ceiling material, though removal itself is not legally mandated and the Ontario Building Code does not regulate popcorn ceilings directly.

We coordinate asbestos testing at cost, $300–$500, with no markup. If the test comes back negative, we move straight to removal.
