Painting over popcorn texture doesn't remove asbestos, and scraping disturbs it. Homes built before 1980 and into the mid-1980s carry the highest risk, and many Kitchener neighbourhoods have homes from that period. Don't scrape until a lab has tested a sample. Asbestos testing costs $300-$500. If the test is negative, we can scrape safely. If it is positive, stop and arrange licensed abatement.
