How can I repair a cracked drywall corner?
Repairing a cracked drywall corner requires reinforcing it with corner bead or mesh tape before re-mudding, since a simple mud fill will crack again within months. Small hairline cracks can sometimes be sealed with flexible caulk, but any crack wider than a hairline means the corner needs to be cut back, re-taped with paper or mesh corner tape, and finished with 2-3 coats of joint compound feathered smooth, then primed and painted to match.
If the cracking is happening because the corner sits under an older popcorn or heavily textured ceiling that's shifting, it's often a sign the surrounding texture is failing too, which is worth having assessed while we're on site. If your home was built before the mid-1980s and has original texture nearby, we recommend testing for asbestos before any sanding or disturbance, per Ontario Regulation 278/05 — we coordinate that testing at cost, $300-$500, no markup.
For a standalone corner repair, we can quote it during an on-site visit alongside any other patching needed. Call us at (519) 729-7394 for a free assessment. KW Popcorn Ceiling Removal · Kitchener service area · Google Reviews
