Does my popcorn ceiling have asbestos in Canada?
Your popcorn ceiling may contain asbestos if it was textured before the mid-1980s, when chrysotile asbestos was commonly mixed into ceiling texture across Canada. You can't tell by looking — testing is the only way to know for certain.
- Ontario Regulation 278/05 governs handling of asbestos-containing material and requires testing before sanding, scraping, or disturbing suspect popcorn texture.
- Removal isn't mandated by law, and the Ontario Building Code doesn't regulate popcorn ceilings.
- We coordinate third-party asbestos testing at cost: $300–$500, no markup.
If your home was built before the mid-1980s and you're planning renovations or removal, get it tested first to protect yourself and anyone working on the ceiling. Call us at (519) 729-7394 and we'll arrange testing before any work begins. KW Popcorn Ceiling Removal · Kitchener service area · Google Reviews
