Do Galt homes have asbestos in their popcorn ceilings?
Some Galt homes do have asbestos in their popcorn ceilings, but only testing can confirm it. Chrysotile asbestos was commonly mixed into ceiling texture through the 1970s and into the mid-1980s, so if your Galt home was built before the mid-1980s, treat the popcorn ceiling as suspect material until it's tested. Homes built later are far less likely to be affected.
Under Ontario Regulation 278/05, testing is required before disturbing any suspect ceiling material. The Ontario Building Code does not regulate popcorn ceilings, and removal itself isn't legally mandated — but safe handling of asbestos-containing material is.
