Can you paint a ceiling after popcorn removal?
Yes — painting is part of the process, not a separate step. Our all-inclusive removal service includes two skim coats, primer, and two coats of paint, priced at $4.50 per square foot for an unpainted popcorn ceiling, $6.50 per square foot if the texture was previously painted with latex, and $7.50 per square foot for oil-based paint. A main floor, a few rooms, or a condo (400 to 600 square feet) typically runs $2,000 to $4,500 all-inclusive.
Before any removal begins, we recommend asbestos testing ($300 to $500, billed at cost with no markup) because chrysotile asbestos was commonly mixed into ceiling texture before the mid-1980s. Under Ontario Regulation 278/05, testing is required before disturbing suspect material, though removal itself is not mandated by law. We coordinate testing with a licensed lab; we do not perform asbestos abatement ourselves.
