If your home was built before the mid-1980s, the popcorn texture can contain chrysotile asbestos, and Ontario Regulation 278/05 requires testing before you disturb any suspect material. A rental tool won't tell you what's in your ceiling, and scraping unknown texture yourself creates airborne dust with no containment. We coordinate asbestos testing at cost, typically $300–$500, with no markup.
