Are stucco ceilings asbestos?
Most stucco (popcorn) ceilings installed before the mid-1980s in Ontario homes contain chrysotile asbestos mixed into the texture, but not all of them do, so testing is the only way to know for sure. Ontario Regulation 278/05 requires testing before disturbing suspect material, though testing is not required just to leave the ceiling alone, and the Ontario Building Code does not regulate popcorn ceilings specifically.
- We coordinate asbestos testing at cost: $300-$500, no markup added
- If it tests positive, handling follows Ontario Regulation 278/05 procedures
- Removal itself is not legally mandated in Ontario, it is a homeowner choice
