Do June Avenue homes have asbestos in popcorn ceilings?

Some homes on June Avenue could have asbestos in their popcorn ceiling, depending on when the house was built. Chrysotile asbestos was commonly mixed into ceiling texture up until the mid-1980s, so any home built before then should be treated as suspect until tested. Homes built after the mid-1980s are far less likely to contain it, but testing is the only way to know for certain.

Under Ontario Regulation 278/05, testing is required before disturbing any suspect ceiling material. Removal itself is not mandated by law, and the Ontario Building Code does not regulate popcorn ceilings. We coordinate third-party asbestos testing at cost, no markup, typically $300-$500.
